What are GCSEs?

GCSE English Language
GCSE English Language uses an analytical and research-based approach to language subjects, drawing on personal experience, and gives the student a chance to show how well they can use English in practical situations. Their capacity to read for meaning and to write for various audiences and objectives is put to the test.
The objective of the exam is to give students the chance to show off their speaking and listening abilities by delivering a formal presentation. Asking questions to extract information, appropriately responding to questions and criticism, using Standard English when speaking or correct English when writing.

GCSE English Literature
The GCSE English Literature course gives you the chance to experience both contemporary literature and modern literature from a literary selection, while requiring you to examine texts from a personal viewpoint. You will learn about poetry, narratives, and drama as you explore a variety of texts from various genres.
English literature GCSE requirements should encourage expanding literary knowledge as well as skills in reading, writing, and critical thinking. Students have the opportunity to grow culturally and gain knowledge of the finest ideas and writings through literature.

Weeks of diligent study are required for the GCSE Mathematics course, which covers subjects such as Handling Data, Numbers, Algebra, Shapes and Space. The course's subjects include Data handling techniques including averages, various graph types, questionnaires, and surveys. Number, including parts, decimals, ratios, and percentages.

GCSE Approach to Learning

HBarker Tutoring can help with GCSE preparation. By providing examples from previous test papers, we can help students better understand the requirements by using a structured, personalised learning plan to extend their skill set.

 - HBarker Tutoring does not guarantee a passing mark on any exams taken but does guarantee to help each student prepare as much as possible within the time given.

How do I begin?

Prior to the first assessment, the Tutor will organise a consultation with a parent/carer to discuss tutoring and tutoring options. This consultation can be via email, text message or phone call.

Where do we start?

Within the first lesson, the tutor will administer an assessment (using a sample GCSE paper), identifying some of the topics within the subject in which the student is having difficulty. The tutor will then design lessons to include further education on these challenging parts of the subject, these lessons will be composed according to the amount of time the student has left before their exams.

Assessment

We will review and take previous exams before the upcoming exams to make sure your child is familiar with the various question formats and knows how to confidently respond to them.

Spellings

Any student who requires help with their spelling can take part in our spelling scheme at HBarker Tutoring. Your child will be issued a username and password for the Spelling Frame website. Students can improve their spelling skills by using the online spelling application Spelling Frame. Which is made up of different tiers of spelling rules that benefit children to learn in order to help them recall how to properly spell particular words. Games, practice exams, and tests are just a few of the numerous methods that Spelling Frame offers to assist students in learning their spelling. The Tutor will support the student when completing these.

The tutor will be capable of placing the student in one of the Spelling Frame levels during our initial assessment session. Spelling practices and tests will be completed at the end of the English sessions. Spellings do not need to be purchased as a separate lesson unless you would like an entire session dedicated to this.
