What are SATs?

SATs are exams, that are taken by students, along with their Science and English writing work assessed by Teachers. SATs are used to measure academic success and ensure that each student has the assistance they require as they transition into secondary education.
Teachers should ensure that each student in their class is equipped to succeed in the exams. You should abide by their general recommendations for assisting your child's education, all year long and before exams, sometime this may involve seeking additional tutoring.

SATs Approach to Learning

Lessons for SATs are offered by HBarker Tutoring. These lessons will aim to help your child gain knowledge and confidence where it is required. These lessons can be in Mathematics, English SPaG, or both.

- HBarker Tutoring does not guarantee a passing mark on any exams taken but does guarantee to help each student prepare as much as possible within the time given.

How do I begin?

Prior to the first assessment, the Tutor will organise a consultation with a parent/carer to discuss tutoring and tutoring options. This consultation can be via email, text message or phone call.

Where do we start?

Within the first lesson, the Tutor will administer an assessment (using a sample SATs paper), identifying some of the subject areas in which the student is having difficulty. The tutor will then design lessons around these challenging subjects and the amount of time left before the pupil takes their exams.

Assessment

We will review and take previous SATs papers before the upcoming exams to make sure your child is familiar with the various question formats and knows how to boldly respond to them.

Spellings

Any student who requires help with their spelling can take part in our spelling scheme at HBarker Tutoring. Your child will be issued a username and password for the Spelling Frame website. Students can improve their spelling skills by using the online spelling application Spelling Frame. Which is made up of different tiers of spelling rules that benefit children to learn in order to help them recall how to properly spell particular words. Games, practice exams, and tests are just a few of the numerous methods that Spelling Frame offers to assist students in learning their spelling. The Tutor will support the student when completing these.

The tutor will be capable of placing the student in one of the Spelling Frame levels during our initial assessment session. Spelling practices and tests will be completed at the end of the English sessions. Spellings do not need to be purchased as a separate lesson unless you would like an entire session dedicated to this.
